As a high school sophomore I wanted to travel, see and experience by myself. I spent a few weeks doing humanitarian works in the city of St Louis, Senegal. It was exhilarating to meet new people from another culture. I was really blessed to experience such an authentic time living with a local family, interacting with street children or learning the Wolof language. Aside from teaching children French and Math we also rebuilt a shelter house destined for street children. This hard work was done in a difficult environment but the reward was worth the trouble!
This trip to Senegal helped me to enlarge my projects fields. I discovered there the concept of Care design, a type of design based on sustainable, social and health innovations, while learning onsite about the desertification. Broaden my horizons, discovering new needs and new solutions is why I am thankful to be able to travel.
